about Nelson Tasman Tourism

Company Overview
Tourism Nelson Tasman Ltd (trading as Nelson Tasman Tourism) is the Regional Tourism Organisation for the Nelson Tasman region. Boundaries include Nelson city, Richmond, Motueka, Golden Bay, St Arnaud, Murchison as well as the Nelson Lakes, Abel Tasman and Kahurangi national parks.

The mission of Nelson Tasman Tourism is to market and develop the Nelson Tasman region as a visitor destination, providing a quality experience to visitors, achieving economic and social benefits for suppliers, businesses and the community and ensuring the integrity of the region's environment is maintained.

Nelson Tasman Tourism, as a CCTO (Council Controlled Trading Organisation), is owned and base funded by two councils, Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council. A board of Directors, appointed by the shareholders, direct strategy and policy and have responsibility for company governance. Directors are chosen from Nelson's wider business community and bring to the organisation skills such as international marketing, company management, public relations and mainstream tourism knowledge.

The Board employs a Chief Executive to operate Nelson Tasman Tourism. The CEO and staff develop an annual tactical marketing plan to direct destination marketing and destination management activity; public relations, marketing and promotion projects, human resource management, financial management and visitor information services.

Based in the Millers Acre Centre – Taha o te Awa, 75 Trafalgar Street, Nelson, Nelson Tasman Tourism operates the Nelson and Golden Bay i-SITE visitor centres and Murchison visitor centre, and provides base funding for Motueka i-SITE.

Production and Distribution of Regional Marketing Collateral
Nelson Tasman Tourism produces a range of publications and other marketing collateral.

Display Stands
Nelson Tasman Tourism produces display stands promoting the region as a visitor destination. These display stands are used in international and domestic consumer/trade promotions and are available on loan to clubs and organisations attending shows where Nelson Tasman Region is promoted.

Photography
Nelson Tasman Tourism manages an image library of Nelson Tasman Region which is added to on an ongoing basis. Tourism operators are given access to these images at no charge for the promotion of Nelson Tasman Region as a visitor destination. The Nelson Tasman Images CD Rom contains a selection of images which may also be downloaded from our website.

National Level Representation
Nelson Tasman Tourism is the regional member of the Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIANZ) and associate member of the Inbound Tour Operators Council of New Zealand. We also have ongoing close liaison with Tourism New Zealand and the Ministry of Tourism.

Media
We disseminate information on local tourism to regional, national and international media, including regular press releases on visitor statistics.

Destination Download
A bi-monthly newsletter distributed to over 1,100 contacts each month, with information and updates on Nelson Tasman Tourism programmes, the Visitor Centres in the region and other tourism news.

Education & Quality Assurance
Our role includes encouraging the industry to raise their quality standards. Nelson Tasman Tourism disseminates information on industry quality programmes. Nelson Tasman Tourism holds regular tourism seminars/workshops to raise the industry's understanding of the domestic/international tourism sector.

Market Research & Information On Tourism
Nelson Tasman Tourism undertakes market research on tourism in the region and has a detailed library of statistical information on tourism in the Nelson region and the country as a whole. The majority of this data is available electronically.
